Soft Landing at the Depew Avenue Oak

At the top of Depew Avenue near 9W stands a beautiful old oak tree—one of nature’s great keystone species. In fall 2025, the Nyack Pollinator Pathway planted a “Soft Landing” beneath its branches, adding a diverse mix of native plants that help support the insects, pollinators, and birds that rely on this remarkable tree.

The plantings provide critical shelter and habitat for one or more life cycle stages of moths, butterflies, and other beneficial insects. Because Nyack Middle School students frequently walk through this lot on their way to school, we hope the garden sparks curiosity about the important role native plants and trees play in our local ecosystem.
