Downtown Beds, Main Street, Nyack, NY.

With the support of the Village of Nyack, the Nyack Pollinator Pathway has spent several years transforming underutilized planting beds along the downtown corridor into vibrant pollinator habitat. What began as a handful of small projects gradually expanded as new beds were added each season, creating a growing network of native plantings throughout one of the community’s most visible public spaces.

These gardens demonstrate the power of “pollinator pockets”—small but meaningful habitat areas that provide food, shelter, and connectivity for pollinators and other wildlife. While large, unbroken natural landscapes are increasingly rare, strategically placed gardens like these can serve as important stepping stones across the urban environment.

Today, these once-overlooked spaces are filled with native grasses and wildflowers that provide seasonal color, support biodiversity, and help connect habitat throughout the community.
